The Northeast Labor Symposium for Early Career Economists (NLS-E) brings together researchers to discuss cutting-edge work on labor markets. We aim to foster a closer community among junior faculty by exchanging ideas on ongoing projects. The 1.5 day workshop will be hosted by the Industrial Relations Section at the Economics Department of Princeton University and will include presentations of working papers/work-in-progress on the following topics:
Labor supply and demand (male/female labor force participation; models of marriage, family, and fertility; disability; immigration; equilibrium models of the labor market)
Human capital (skill measurement; skill development; evaluation of education policy; health; early childhood)
Inequality (wage and non-wage inequality; technical change; mobility; race, gender, ethnicity, and LGBTQ inequalities; inequality-related policy evaluation)
Labor market institutions, wage setting, and imperfect competition in labor markets (unions; regulation; monopsony; minimum wages; bargaining; unemployment; non-wage amenities; firm- and industry wage differentials)
Labor markets in developing countries
Other topics in labor economics (crime; program evaluation; discrimination; peer effects; spatial labor economics; etc.)
The Industrial Relations Section will provide lodging and meals for presenters and discussants. Some funding is available to offset the cost of travel for symposium participants (up to a limit).
To submit a paper or extended abstract, please send a PDF with the subject line “2025 NLS-E Conference” to [email protected]. In the email, please also indicate if you are willing to serve as a discussant in the event we are unable to include your paper in the program. Papers should not yet be published. We encourage submissions from Postdoctoral Researchers, Assistant Professors, and recently promoted (untenured) Associate Professors.
The submission deadline is December 22, 2024.
Authors will be notified of the outcome by January 30, 2025 by the organizers, Hadar Avivi and Roman Rivera.
