Abstract
Regional disparities in access to education are a major factor in regional inequality and mobility. China’s current setting allocates access to higher education on a provincial level and limits migration toward richer provinces with better opportunities. We build an overlapping generations model to estimate effects of counterfactual education and migration policy changes on regional inequality and social mobility in China.
