On March 29th Allison Green will present “Networks and Geographic Mobility: Evidence from World War II Navy Ships” as part of the Migration Networks and Intra-Household Implications session of the 14th European Meeting of the Urban Economics Association at Humboldt University, Berlin.
Her paper uses random assignment to Navy ships during World War II as a natural experiment to study how personal networks shape migration patterns. Using newly constructed data on 1.4 million sailors, Allison measures exposure to geographically diverse shipmates and estimate its impact on post-war migration.
