IR graduate alumnus (GS *91) Christoph M. Schmidt is the Chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts

IR graduate alumnus (GS *91) Christoph Matthias Schmidt is the Chairman of the German Council of Economic Experts, a group of economists set up in 1963 to advise the German government and Parliament on economic policy issues. He is also president of the RWI Essen, a center for economic research and evidence-based policy advice in Germany.

Schmidt received his Diploma in economics at the University of Mannheim in 1987, and his M.A. in economics from Princeton University in 1989. He also earned his Ph.D. from Princeton in 1991, under the supervision of David Card, and where he was a student of Alan Krueger and Henry Farber. Schmidt received his Habilitation in 1995 from the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.
